The keyword density tool analyses your text and shows which words and phrases appear most often and at what density (as a percentage). It helps you optimise an article for a search query without tipping into keyword stuffing, which search engines penalise.
How to check keyword density
- Paste your article or page text into the field above.
- Click "Analyse".
- You'll see the total word count and a table of the most frequent words with their count and density.
What density is considered normal
There's no universal figure, but a common guideline is 1–3% for the main keyword. If a word exceeds 4–5%, the text looks over-optimised. Modern search engines judge meaning and topic coverage rather than raw frequency, so natural writing and synonyms matter more than stuffing a keyword.
Why it's useful
- SEO. Confirm your keywords are present but not overused.
- Competitor analysis. See which queries a competitor's page is optimised for.
- Editing. Spot filler words and needless repetition.
Frequently asked questions
Are prepositions and conjunctions counted?
No. Short stop words (and, the, of, in, etc.) are excluded so the top of the list shows meaningful words, not connectors.
Is the text sent anywhere?
No. The analysis runs in your browser; the text is never transmitted.
