Trolling is an effective, fun
way for all to fish
Consistently catching a wide
variety of game fish in
diverse conditions is the
reward for the anglers who
employ trolling as one of
their primary fishing
techniques on big rivers (like
the Delaware River) and our
big lakes (like lake
Wallenpaupack).
Trolling will almost always
out-fish anglers using other
fishing methods for one simple
reason: An entire section of
water can quickly and
efficiently be prospected by
trolling.
The best concentrations of
fish can be located with
minimum effort. These smaller
area "hot spot" sections of
water can be efficiently be
covered by the other methods
such as fly/spin-casting and
still fishing without spending
as much time and energy.

Freshwater Fishing Combos
Every fishing rod and fishing
reel are slightly different,
and have their own sets of
strengths and weaknesses.
It`s important that you pair
your rod and reel selection so
together. You don`t want a
light reel with a heavy rod,
or you won`t have enough
feeling, and at the same time,
too light of a rod with a
heavier reel won`t allow you
to fight a larger fish.
Luckily, Extreme Fishing
Outfitters offers rod and reel
combos, so that you can be
sure everything will work
together well.

Jerkbait Basics
Last weekend I had the
opportunity to head down to
New York and fish with some
good friends from South of the
border on Lake Erie. Typically
this time of year the bite on
Erie has a 50/50 chance of
turning off if the water
temperatures hit the right
numbers and the bass start to
think spawn... and this year
it was to be. Water
temperatures on the lake were
59-61 degrees and it put the
big females into a daze and
the smaller fish had a sense
of urgency to them, coming to
look at the bait but being
very fickle when
committing.
Spawning will start going full
bore at 63-65 degrees and when
that happens things can slow
down drastically for a couple
of weeks. The one bait that I
can always rely on is a
jerkbait in that situation
since it absolutely drives the
fish wild and let`s their
curiosity get the best of
them.

What is an ultra light fishing
rod with reel good for
catching?
Usually an ultra light rod and
reel is used for panfish. The
light line gives the small
lures better action than
heavier line, and the rod
makes detecting light bites
easier. I have spools of 2 and
4lb. test for my rig. It`s a
lot of fun catching fish on an
ultra light, because even
smaller fish will put up a
good fight. You can catch big
fish on an ultra light, you
just have to be careful while
playing them. If you`re
fishing tough conditions,
going to an ultra light can
help you catch more game fish,
too. Pressured fish, extremely
clear water, and calm water
are a few of the conditions
I`ll use my ultra light for
walleye or bass. A 1/16th oz.
jig tipped with a small leech
or minnow is my favorite ultra
light lure for walleye. I`ve
taken walleye up to 28", pike
to 38", and bass to 25" on my
ultra light. If you`re going
to target game fish, make sure
your hooks are sharp and your
drag is properly set. When I
have a bigger fish on, I like
to "back reel" when the fish
makes a run.
