Online shopping saves time, but the cost of a mistake is lost money and frayed nerves. Fortunately, a store's reliability can be assessed in advance. Here is a step-by-step checklist that protects you from a bad purchase.
A good store hides nothing: prices, delivery and return terms, and contacts are all in plain sight. If you have to dig for something — that's already a signal.
Step 1. Check the reputation
The first thing to do is find the store in the "Online Stores" section of our catalog. Focus not on the average score but on the content of reviews:
- how the store handles complaints and solves problems;
- whether real delivery times match the promised ones;
- whether there were issues getting a refund.
Step 2. Study delivery and return terms
An honest store has a clear return policy, realistic delivery times and transparent costs. The absence of these sections is a reason to be cautious.
Step 3. Assess the payment options
Good signs are pay-on-delivery, secure card acquiring and the ability to refund to a card. A bad sign is a store that accepts only transfers to a private card or asks you to pay a "manager" in a messenger.
Step 4. Check the site technically
Domain age, SSL certificate and the absence of the domain from blacklists are basic trust signals. They are all in the "Security Checks" block on the company page. See "Why Check Domain Age, SSL and Blacklists".
Tip: a price that is too low is bait, not luck. If an item costs 70–90% less than everywhere else, it is almost certainly fraud. More in "How to Spot a Scam Website".
Quick checklist before ordering
- Find the store in the catalog and read recent reviews.
- Make sure there is a return policy and real contacts.
- Check the domain age and SSL certificate.
- Compare prices with several other stores.
- Choose a safe payment method — pay on delivery if possible.
In short
A reliable online store is visible in advance: a good reputation, transparent terms, safe payment and a "clean" site. After your order, leave a review in the catalog to help other buyers.
